A Season of Pilgrimage
A Provincial wide year of Pilgrimage was planned for 2020 but like much else because of the Covid virus any plans made have had to be deferred or cancelled. The Bishops have now announced that there will be a Season of Pilgrimage beginning on 6th January, the Feast of the Epiphany and will continue until 2022.

The Diocese is sad to learn of the death of Andrew McHutchison, organist at St Luke’s, Downfield, Dundee, for 20 years.

Bishop Nigel writes: 'The massacre by Adam Lanza of twenty primary school children and six staff in Connecticut just before Christmas shocked us all, raising many uncomfortable questions about guns and violence, video games and family life which are relevant here in Britain also.'

The Rt Rev Dr Nigel Peyton, Bishop of Brechin, has today announced his appointment of the Rev Dr Francis Bridger as Dean of the Diocese of Brechin, and says 'Dr Bridger brings a long and wide experience of Anglican Church life and ministry development and I look forward to working with him in the Diocese of Brechin.'

Edward Luscombe and Stuart Donald have between them produced a book under this title, which is subtitled 'Bishops who have held the Office of Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church from 1704 to 2012'.

'It is done! Welcome, Bishop Ellinah!' With these words the Rt Rev Thabo Makgoba, Archbishop of Cape Town and Primate of the Province of Southern Africa, announced the news that the consecration of the Rev Ellinah Wamukoya as Bishop of Swaziland, one of our companion dioceses, had taken place on Saturday 17 November.

On Saturday, 22 September Professor Francis Bridger and his wife Helen were instituted as Rector and Associate rector respectively of St Mary’s, Broughty Ferry.
Same sex marriage legislation
The Scottish Government has announced its intention to legislate for same sex marriage by 2015. Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said that she will work with the UK government to amend equality laws to protect churches from having to officiate at those unions unwillingly.

Woman Bishop elected in companion Diocese of Swaziland
Our Companion Diocese of Swaziland made history in July when it elected Rev Ellinah Wamukoya as Bishop – the first woman bishop in the Anglican Province of Southern Africa. I have written to her to say how delighted I am with the news and to wish her every blessing in her new ministry.
