Can a Scientist Trust the New Testament?

Bishop Tom Wright will give a talk in the Physics Main Lecture Theatre, St Andrews University on 17 February 2014 at 5.15pm.

Dr Tom Wright is one of today’s best known and respected New Testament scholars. Born in 1948, he studied for the ministry at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford, and was ordained as Junior Research Fellow and Junior Chaplain at Merton College, Oxford.

From 1978 to 1981 he was Fellow and Chaplain at Downing College, Cambridge, and then moved to Montreal as Assistant Professor of New Testament Studies at McGill University. He returned in 1986 to Oxford as University Lecturer in New Testament, and Fellow and Chaplain of Worcester College, Oxford. He became Dean of Lichfield in 1994, and Canon Theologian of Westminster Abbey in 2000. He was Bishop of Durham from 2003 until his retirement in 2010. He is currently Research Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at St Mary's CollegeUniversity of St Andrews in Scotland.

He has published over 40 books at both scholarly and popular levels; also several dozen academic and popular articles. He also frequently broadcasts on radio and TV, including devising and presenting programmes in both media.
